Getting over the word psychic

I've had a rough ride on the psychic train. I often think about what other term I can use to define my abilities because of the connotations I associate with the word psychic. My unease probably stems from lifetimes of abuse, torture, persecution and even from high school where I was labeled as a fortune teller and a witch. Most often people associate it only with an ability to see the future. All of this together has made me shy away from this label. My teacher often has me look up words to reconnect with their true meanings. I've been wanting to make business cards and struggling with what to put on them so a trip to the dictionary was definitely in order. Here's what it said about the word psychic:

World English Dictionary
psychic  (ˈsaɪkɪk) [Click for IPA pronunciation guide]

adj
1. a. outside the possibilities defined by natural laws, as mental telepathy
 b. (of a person) sensitive to forces not recognized by natural laws
2. mental as opposed to physical; psychogenic
3. bridge  (of a bid) based on less strength than would normally be required to make the bid

n
4. a person who is sensitive to parapsychological forces or influences

[C19: from Greek psukhikos  of the soul or life]

Nothing to be afraid of there. It's amazing how clear things can get once we get the mind out of the way. All I needed to do to release myself from the past was to inform my current self of the truth. Yay. I'm still not exactly sure what my business cards will say but at least I'm not holding on to a false definition anymore.

It's Daylight!

And I'm finally awake to see it. Granted, I haven't had any sleep yet but that's alright. I'm sure to make that happen later. I'm excited to get down to the beach for some relaxing snow covered wave action. The air is crisp and delightful today. I'm working on an exciting project and woah is the energy flowing!

Aura Drawings on Etsy

My etsy shop now includes aura drawings. Below is the description. I've made a coupon for friends: LOVEANDHUGS takes 20% off and shipping on drawings is always free.

I will make you a drawing of your aura. I can never predict how the drawing will look, sometimes they resemble a face, sometimes they look like blobs of color. But they are always fun, informative and colorful.

I've been drawing energetic patterns since the age of 8 when a friend's mother threw out a box of oil paints. I eagerly saved them from the landfill and began experimenting. I still remember the day I looked down at a mess of colorful forms and realized it meant something. I could decipher their meaning and use it as a tool for problem solving. This was truly a day of finding myself and I've continued ever since.

You'll get a 9 x 12 inch drawing, done in pastels and a brief explanation of what the colors and patterns mean. The drawing will be shipped to you in a tube mailer, gently rolled with tissue paper.

Plethora

Some clippings of grass
upon kitchen table.
Dots of sun shared
by crystal vase.
The wilted flower
petals, fallen.
Specks of salt, pepper
cinnamon toast from
breakfast. I place
my flat palms down
hard. Work them into
the table cloth.
Collecting conversations
long retired. No
snow to wet the
ground, no silent
cat steps through
the lawn. These
minute offerings
replace them. Hand
squishing into crumbs
and old smiles and
parents. The plethora
of scenes imprinted
in this room.

David Sedaris...yay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aVDExDwcpA

He's special because he's so normal. He fucked up when he was younger and not so younger. He did drugs, moved around a lot, had crappy jobs and then things turned around. He writes stories about his family and other silly things and he's sold 9 million books. I love these stories. And I love his.

Synopsis

Beaten by minutes
sleep takes the maiden
to dreams.
Kung fu teaching
dogs, she fears,
will give
him the final
advantage.

Oprah Upgrades

"I am seeking the fullest expression of myself as a human being on Earth."

That's it. The most enlightened sentence I've ever heard. And it works. People want to be happy, have money, make a difference, stand out, share love, etc. Well that's how you do it. One intention. To be the best you, the most fully expressed you. We are all here for something. We have different perspectives, chemistry, biology than every single other person alive and with that, we have something new to share with the world. We are all important. We all have a duty to participate in our own way. We need you! This fog of unimportance, apathy, self-doubt, shame and guilt can be lifted and we can then rise to the same level of those we perceive to have all the power. Power does not live with only a certain percentage of the population. Power lives in those who claim it internally. Oprah didn't become powerful because she earned a huge amount of money, she earned that money from claiming her own internal power to change her circumstances and the world. She followed her intuition to her present position and still lives by it today. You have no idea what your life could look like if you allowed yourself to be guided by inner strength and intuition. I don't yet, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

A new year poem by Lorraine Settanni

Mourning Dove
Lorraine Settanni 1/1/11
I was glad to see it go
It seemed to linger
Trapped in pain and discomfort

I swept away all remnants
Of its attendance
Before the appointed departure

I didn’t see it leave
Only relished the calm and quiet
And awoke renewed and replenished

A Dove greeted me
Dawn of the New Year
To signal the end of Mourning

“When the mourning dove appears there will be messages and opportunities for growth”

To a new year

I truly love the energy this time of year. We get a break to rest. We can muster up the mental energy we will need for a running start once the energy picks up again. I'm finding the personal space I need without the nagging feeling that I'm procrastinating. Ideas form above our heads before coming into our bodies. They have their own time frame that cannot be rushed. Let these form fully before extracting them from the collective. I'm not usually the type of person that can allow this to happen successfully. Most often I attempt at pulling them down before they mature. The peace of early January is making this process much easier. Don't rush, don't feel that ever present obligation to perform. Remember to be mindful. It's a great time to clean your space and prepare for the year with a fresh state of mind and matter. Take it easy now because this year is filled with fire.

Short stories for redemption

A new friend of mine, Dominick Mastri, has started a short story blog. I highly recommend checking it out. He's a very talented writer and the subject matter is all centered around personal stories of questionable behavior. The purpose is to atone for past mistakes by "actively remembering" instead of forgetting. I've met several people in the past few months who have the drive to make up for their past. In some cases it seems like a false motive. The past is gone and making your current life about fixing it seems wasteful. In this case however, the writing is adding content to the current life, enriching it. Sort of killing two birds with one stone. I wish him all the best with this new endeavor and will eagerly continue reading. The link is now on the left and here.
